Carefully read the Unit 3 Notes: Individualism and Collectivism.  They are posted as a PDF. 

Regarding the lifeboat problem, consider:

Collectivism calls for deciding who is the "least valuable" to the Good of the Group, then sacrificing them. 

Pure Individualism means doing whatever one has to do to survive, regardless of the negative effects on others.

Mutual Individualism caslls for trying to save everyone (can we make a bigger boat?), or asking for volunteers to take greater risks, or asking the fittest to take the most risks, or last resort: draw straws.

This overcrowded lifeboat problem has been debated in philosophy for a very long time.  You are now part of a tradition.
